Need a Job in Luton?
by chet on Nov.22, 2008, under Luton Jobs, Luton Town
With the recession hitting the UK, we’re seeing job cuts in many sectors following the global financial crisis. Finding a job in the current climate needs a new approach so here are some tips.
Step 1: Review Your CV
First, review your cv and look to how you can improve it. Are you marketing yourself in the best way? With competition increasing for jobs, you need to make sure you stand out. Speak to recruitment agencies and employers, see what they are looking for. If you’re missing the skills, start learning now. You don’t necessarily need to pay for courses and there are a lot of free courses available. Research and learn the skills online and make sure you know what you are talking about.
Step 2: Choose your targets
Have a clear idea on what you want to apply for and what benefits you can offer to the employer. When employers are facing the recession, you need to give them a good reason to hire you. Think of the ways you can help the company or the employer. If you don’t have anything specific, think of the employers that are hiring now - you can do this by simply searching on Google for companies that are growing in the recession. For example, debt management advisors.
Step 3: Follow up your applications
You need to chase up your applications as employers and agencies receive many applicants. Give them a call and get the feedback. Even if your application goes nowhere, you can take advantage of their feedback and make improvements to increase your chances in the future.
Step 4: Don’t Give Up!
There are still jobs in the recession, less than before but there are still a lot of jobs available. You need to keep knocking on doors and don’t give up until you find your job.
