Need a Job in Luton?

by chet on Nov.22, 2008, under Luton Jobs, Luton Town

With the recession hitting the UK, we’re seeing job cuts in many sectors following the global financial crisis. Finding a job in the current climate needs a new approach so here are some tips.

Step 1: Review Your CV
First, review your cv and look to how you can improve it. Are you marketing yourself in the best way? With competition increasing for jobs, you need to make sure you stand out. Speak to recruitment agencies and employers, see what they are looking for. If you’re missing the skills, start learning now. You don’t necessarily need to pay for courses and there are a lot of free courses available. Research and learn the skills online and make sure you know what you are talking about.

Step 2:  Choose your targets

Have a clear idea on what you want to apply for and what benefits you can offer to the employer.  When employers are facing the recession, you need to give them a good reason to hire you.  Think of the ways you can help the company or the employer.  If you don’t have anything specific, think of the employers that are hiring now - you can do this by simply searching on Google for companies that are growing in the recession. For example, debt management advisors.

Step 3:  Follow up your applications

You need to chase up your applications as employers and agencies receive many applicants.  Give them a call and get the feedback.  Even if your application goes nowhere, you can take advantage of their feedback and make improvements to increase your chances in the future.

Step 4:  Don’t Give Up!

There are still jobs in the recession, less than before but there are still a lot of jobs available.  You need to keep knocking on doors and don’t give up until you find your job.

Are you looking for a job in Luton? How are you finding it? Post your comments here.

How to date Luton Girls

by chet on Nov.22, 2008, under Luton Dating, Luton Town

If you’re looking to date Luton girls and really keep their interest, you must have a game plan. Take it from someone who has dated and became friends with women from all corners of London, and has tried Luton dating during an extended trip.

Sincerity goes a long way in Luton dating. Dating beautiful women does not mean that you have to shell out a lot of cash and take these Luton girls to the fanciest places you know. Contrary to popular belief, a lot of women would rather share a very good conversation with you over a cold one while you are in the getting to know each other phase of your friendship.

A bit of manly aggressiveness won’t hurt but the main aspect of your Luton dating plans should be to make friends initially and be very social in the popular hang out places. Don’t worry if you don’t know anyone in the locality; you’re there to interact and you will soon find that there are a lot of gregarious Lutonians in the central pub district. Regardless if you’re just visiting or you went there to meet some Luton girls that you connected with online, your best bet at making some romantic connections is to keep an approachable stance.

Speaking of online, Luton dating over the internet is quickly becoming popular, as many more people who want to connect with people from the UK (particularly those from Luton) are flocking to these sites to find if they could meet the prettiest Luton girls. It’s worth a guy’s time to try online dating. However, unlike offline dates, online dating needs a little bit more effort. In a bar somewhere in Luton, you can simply approach, introduce yourself and have a short chat. In an online dating site, you must narrow your search to town, province and country to find the Luton girls who are members of the dating service.

Narrow down your search according to preferences and make sure to read all about your potential date on her dating profile. Email and chatting should be effortless when you’ve done your assignment and learned what she likes to do on her spare time and what she does for a living (which is indicated in her dating profile).

Arndale Shops

by chet on Nov.17, 2008, under Luton Shops, Luton Town

The entire inner centre of Luton town was demolished in order for the Arndale to be built.  It was founded by Arnold Hagenbach (a baker turned business man) and Sam Chippendale (an estate agent) who got the idea from the United States.  Each of the Arndales they built quickly became a success.  Unfortunately, the town’s historic roads and businesses had to give way.  They did however name the aisles by the names of the roads that were lost.

Luton Entertainment Hot Spots

by chet on Nov.17, 2008, under Entertainment, Luton Shops, Luton Town

Luton offers a range of entertainment and nightlife as you would expect for a town of its size.  There is the Galaxy Centre with a Cineworld cinema, bowling alley, arcades and restaurants/bars such as Nando’s and Weatherspoons.

Cineworld is multi screen cinema showing the latest Hollywood movies and the occassional special screenings. If you are a student or go at certain times, you can benefit from reduced rates.

There are a number of bars in the town including a few swish new bars such as Bellini’s and the new G Casino bar.  The casino opens till the early hours so there’s always somewhere to head after the bars close.  There are of course the usual pub favourites such as The Heights, Brookes and Weatherspoons.

Transport in Luton

by chet on Nov.13, 2008, under Luton Town, Luton Travel

Luton offers excellent transportation links in and out of the town.  Luton is just over 30 miles north of London and the Intercity trains take only 25 mins to Kings Cross, London.  The slightly slower regional trains take 35 mins with a slightly more bumpy ride.  There are 3 train stations in Luton, Luton Airport Parkway, Luton Town and Leagrave (north Luton) and trains run on a regular basis even through the night from Kings Cross station in London.

Then there is the infamous London Luton International Airport with excellent connections to Europe via low cost carriers such as EasyJet and Ryanair.  With these carriers offering more and more routes, you are spoilt for choice when travelling to Europe.  You can get to the airport easily from J10 of the M1 motorway or Luton Parkway train station.

The central bus station is located in the town centre next to the town’s main train station with buses and coaches connecting to London and the other major UK cities.  This can sometimes prove to be an inexpensive form of transport when travelling on a budget.

History of Luton

by chet on Nov.13, 2008, under History, Luton Town

6th Century

The saxons created the first settlement/farm by the river Lea in Luton when they conquered Bedfordshire.  Most people lived by farming and the town became a central point between surrounding villages as Luton had a market.  By the middle ages, the population had risen to around 1,500 people.

Middle Ages

Luton had 6 mills with one of the mills giving the name to Mill Street.  The Lord of the Manor built a castle in 1139 but it was demolished in 1154 and that is where the name Castle Street came from.

Luton Loves Nitro Cars

by chet on Nov.12, 2008, under Luton Shops

Google trends show Lutonians are some of the biggest fans of nitro cars.  Could this be coming from a strong posse of boy racers in the town?  What is the attraction to nitro cars?

These fuel powered model cars can reach high speeds and entertain people of all ages.  These nitro model cars are generally larger than electric model cars as the high performance electronics tend to be larger for nitro cars. Mechanical wear is generally higher than electric cars but simply for the fact that you use them for longer. Their robustness however is higher than electric cars.

Do you have a nitro car?  Post your comments on why we should get nitro car? Check out the youtube videos below:
